Suleymaniye Mosque

There are some moments when you feel the peace in your soul… Visiting mosques is the recipe for these moments for me. They are my dearest places that I love the most. They are where I feel at peace when I enter, which is why I am glad to sit in their gardens and the reason that I gladly accept the fact that I will die someday! For this reason, when I was asked to describe an important building representing the history of Turkey, the first place to come to my mind was one of these mosques. Suleymaniye Mosque.. The Suleymaniye Mosque was built by the great architect Sinan between 1550 and 1557 at the order of Süleyman the Magnificent. The Süleymaniye, more than a mosque, is an important historical symbol for the Turks. It unites Architect Sinan with Süleyman, one representing the best of the arts and the other most powerful of political strength. Mimar Sinan made the world’s most beautiful works of art. His work can be seen in many cities; from Kayseri to Istanbul and ...

The Times Bringing Turks Together

There are material and spiritual values that hold nations together. There is a ritual saying: the joys multiply when they are shared, the troubles decrease when they are shared. The nations carry their identities around this material spiritual values out to the future. Cry together, laugh together. This cultural heritage is stems from both religious values and the custom of society. What is the cultural heritage of the Turks? What time keeps them together? Being Friends with People from Other Cultures

We like to label people and countries as we love to do in every way. When I met a new culture first, I already had an idea about it. He was an English gentleman who was cold, distant and little bit arrogant. I had to sit with him for a 12-hour flight. As a 13 years old girl, I found it a little scary and annoying. He never talked, or making eye contact. He did not even smile at the flight attendants. But then suddenly something happened! We started to watch the world’s funniest movie* with my dad. I was a person who did not know even a word of English had laugh a lot. The man sitting next to me laughed with laughter. He joined us to watch! And we were telling each other everything we wanted to tell in body language. When the movie was over, the man next to me was no longer the same person. A stranger became an uncle for me. It was my first encounter with a new culture and made me learn something very important. People were much more than how they look like. You could not have...

Giden geri gelmiyor. Baktığımız aynaların, bize dost olmadığını anlıyoruz. Fakat büyüyoruz, insan oluyoruz. Kaybettiklerimiz de, insan olmanın bedeli olsa gerek.
